Saving A Sharpened Image

I am using Elements 11 on a MacBook. When I sharpen a picture in Photo Editor-Quick and try to save the one of the nine drop down boxes that I want, the "After" image immediately reverts to the "Before" image when I hit "File" in order to get to "Save As". How do I prevent this from happening?                                                       Thanks very much.
