Saving metadata painfully slow
I am using Dell XPS 17 9710 laptop. Windows 11. Version 10.0.22621. Intel 11th GEN I 9–1190H processor. 16 GB of RAM. 1 TB SSD.
PSE Adobe elements organizer 2024 is taking 1 hour 14 minutes to save the metadata for 250 files. This is 4.93 hours for 1000 photos. For my collection of 40,000 photos, it would take 8 days (197 hours). I had the same problem with previous version, before I upgraded to 2024.
Is this expected? Is it supposed to take this long? If not, how can this issue should be resolved?
I have tried all of the following:
- Optimize Catalog: File > Catalog > Optimize Catalog.
- 2. Check Hard Drive Health…CHKDSK (Windows) to check for disk errors or fragmentation.
- Minimize Background Processes: Closed unnecessary applications and browser tabs to free up system resources.
- Save in Batches: save metadata in smaller batches to reduce strain on the software.
- Repair catalog. File > Manage Catalogs.\repair. There were no errors found, I still clicked “repair anyway“
- Cleared thumbnail cache
- Rebooted computer after each change
- Re-install PSE
