Scanning photos into Photoshop Elements

Scanning photos into my Organizer (Elements 2020) from my printer/scanner (HP) no longer works.  The software totally freezes up.  Having no trouble with the scanner in any other programs.  Any ideas why this suddenly does not work?  I can still print from Elements to my printer/scanner.
