Scrambling Version Sets

I use Elements 2021. It scrambles some of my version sets. I launch the editor from within Elements and save the modified images in a version sets with the originals. Some time later when I look at the same images I find that the edited image from one version set is now in a version set with a different original. How do I fix this, and how do I prevent it from happening in the future?

I doubt whether this will do anything  for existing Version Sets, but it may for future ones:  Try resetting the preferences file. Go to the Edit>Preferences>General tab and click the Reset Preferences on next launch button.

The only other thing I can suggest is:

  • Find>All Version Sets,
  • Convert each version set to individual items (from a right-click context menu)
  • Place the correct images in a Stack (by selecting them and choosing Stack Selected Images from a context menu).

I have never heard of this happening before.  It looks like there is a corruption in the database that pairs the version sets with the preceding image in the grid.

My suggestion is to first make a copy of the catalog folder.  Then go to File>Manage Catalogs and select the Repair and Optimize options.  Allow the repair and optimization processes to complete even if they report that no errors have been found.

I have tried both several times with nothing getting repaired.
