Screen too dark - Photoshop Elements 2020 on Windows 10

New install of Elements 2020 on this Win 10 laptop.  I open a picture (jpg)

and it comes up overall dark.  Edit it and lighten it and save and close and

reopen and it is back to the dark.  Something is different on this laptop.  I

also have 2020 installed on my desktop and images are fine on that

computer.  I strongly suspect that there is some "setting" that needs to

be changed/adjusted on this laptop ... but I have no idea which one/how

to adjust the initial image appearance.
