Hello!

I have tried many different photos so not sure how to "activate" my sharpen tool? The blur tool is blue and the sharpen is grey?

    Correct answer hatstead

When I try to apply it to photos it still doesn't work

Do you continue to left press on the mouse as you "paint" over the area to be sharpened?

If you wish to sharpen the entire picture, suggest that you utilize Unsharp mask.

Another way is to duplicate the background layer. Set the background copy layer to overlay blending mode in the layers palette. Then, go to Filter menu>Other>High pass and work the slider.

Just click on the Sharpen Tool icon and it's ready to use.
