Question

SSD upgrade killed Photoshop Elements 6

After upgrading my C: drive to a larger size SSD my Photoshop Elements 6.0 will no longer load.  This is on a Windows 10 system and every other piece of software runs just fine.  Only Photoshop fails.  It is as if it lost the license key. There is no message or screen displayed... it just quits.  Any help?

You tried reinstalling pse 6?

You can try resetting the pse 6 preferences by going to

C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\6.0

and deleting the

Editor folder

If that doesn't work, then most likely all the relevant bits and pieces didn't transfer over properly and a reinstall of photoshop elements 6 is required.

Tried your suggestion and no luck.  Is there anything in the registry I need to check?

What version of windows are you using?

Did you do a fresh install of photoshop elements 6 on the new ssd?

Windows 10. No... I did not reinstall anything. I expected everything to work the same as before. All my other software works just fine. The only failure was Photoshop!

Did you "upgrade" your c : drive yourself? If so, did you use a "cloning" utility provided by the SSD manufacturer?

That process does NOT* require a reinstall, since it copies all the contents of your old conventional drive to the new SSD, so that Windows does not see the difference in storing technology and all the programs work as before; that also should work for Elements and I am sure that most PSE users changing their C : are using that to avoid reinstalling everything from scratch. Otherwise most of other copy solutions do require a full reinstall of the OS and the programs.

That's the reason that you'll find posts on this forum with the advice to prefer not to "clone" but to reinstall everything from scratch, Windows and all the programs. That's takes obviously much more time, but your system drive is now much cleaner.
