Question

Straighten panoramic photo?

Hello and good day,

I have just started with PS Elements and would like to find out if the following is possible:
The panoramic photo does not show reality, because the building has no curves! Can I make a planar picture out of it? And how can I replace the sky?

I would be very grateful for any suggestions!

Norbert

Are you able to go back and retake the shots?

Yes! Do you have an idea what I can do better?

Try standing farther from the building.

I did manage to get the building somewhat straight, however, it took a fair amount of work involving the Lens Correction filter, Liquify filter and Transform.

I would suggest trying the Photomerge panorama in photoshop elements with your three photos and see how that turns out.

You might even post the three photos here so we can try.

Thank you for your work! Yes, I like to post these three photos to see what you can do with them. At the same time, I'll try as well!

And thank you for the link! 😉

One problem: If I replace the sky, the gables disappear too!

I give up!

Obviously it is not possible to take and create a planar panorama of a building.

The picture of my old school was to decorate a book cover, front and back. I now take it as it is, with the unrealistic curves. But, I was able to replace the sky well now!

@Norbert29510150sij4, I used one of the sample skies that is available in the Perfect Landscape Guided Edit.

What is the origin of your panoramic shot?

Is it produced from a panoramic effect of your phone/camera?

Is it the result of a very wide angle lens?

Or the result of a Photomerge panorama in Elements?

Your image shows an extreme barrel distortion.

You can correct barrel distortion from the filters menu (correct camera distortion).

You can select an option for spherical or horizontal distortion in the photomerge panorama process.

    Edit:

I see that greg has answered at the same time...

    @Greg_S.
Thank you very much for your detailed answer with these example pictures! That's how I can learn...
You really put a lot of effort into it.

In the end, I guess I have to realise that it's not possible to photograph a building as it really looks.... But your tips challenge me to try some things! Thanks for that. The exchange of the sky is really magnificent! Where did you get that beautiful sky?

    @MichelBParis
The origins of my panorama are three photos I took on edge with a super wide angle attachment lens. I use a bridge camera, hence this attachment, which extends my wide angle by a factor of 4.7.
This barrel distortion is not realistic. After all, the building is not curved, but rectangular, like any normal building. Maybe I made a mistake when taking the pictures? But I don't know which one.

There are a few different tools you can use.  (I am assuming you are using Elements 2023). First try the Filter>Correct Camera Distortion dialog.  You can get something like this:

Next, try the Free Transform tool (Ctrl+T) which allows you to distort the image a little more:

You can also use the Perspective Crop tool (found in the Crop tool options) or the other tools in the Image>Transform menu such as Skew or Warp.

Finally, use the Crop and Straighten tools.

The easy part is adding the sky.  Go to the Guided Edit mode and use the Perfect Landscape Guided Edit (under the Special Edits tab).

Your image is a little difficult to correct, and I didn't spend much time on this, but here is my result.

With a little more patience, I am sure you can do better.
