They work everywhere else (Word, Facebook, MS File Explorer (correct name?)). Have installed NOTHING new in ages, running Win8. Help!

It's not quite so simple.  😉  In Elements, you have to select some pixels to copy.  If you want to copy the entire photo, press Ctrl+ A (select all).  All options to copy (followed by paste) will then become available.

Apologies & thanks to all who tried helping me. I'm utterly flummoxed. Yes, that works perfectly. WTF was I thinking? Not correctly fer sure - after years of using PS how could I suddenly ... forget?... how to use it? My brain hurts. Seriously, I'm confounded by my own stupidity. Thank you all!!!

Can you post a video showing how you are doing it in Photoshop Elements?

Thank you but no - not necessary. It's simple. I load a .jpg photo from one of my folders and then try to select Copy in the pull-down menu - except copy is not enabled. If I go directly to a photo in my 'File Explorer' and use CTRL-C to copy a file, I can then paste it (CTRL-V) into another folder - but in PS the option ' New from clipboard' is not active.

Try this:

Restore default preferences
Preference settings control how Photoshop Elements Editor displays images, cursors, and transparencies, saves files, uses plug‑ins and scratch disks, and so on. If the application exhibits unexpected behavior, the preferences file could be damaged. You can restore all preferences to their defaults.

Note: Deleting the preferences file is an action that cannot be undone.

Do one of the following:

Press and hold Alt+Control+Shift (Mac: Option+Command+Shift) immediately after Photoshop Elements begins launching. Click Yes to delete the Adobe Photoshop Elements settings file.
Go to Edit > Preferences (Mac: Photoshop Elements > Preferences > General), click the Reset Preferences on next launch button, and then click OK. When you restart Adobe Photoshop Elements, all preferences are reset to default settings.
A new preferences file is created the next time you start Photoshop Elements Editor. For information on a specific preference option, search for the preference name in Help.

Thank you but...I'd found that info before posting. Tried it - twice. No effect. Copy/Paste do not work.

Sorry, but I have to ask:

Did you restart the computer?
