Question

Tag bug

I have recently upgraded to PE2018, which I run on Windows 10. I have noticed that tags have been assigned to many photos in error. If I click in the box to select all of the photos with a particular tag, I get some of those photos plus many other photos that should not have that tag. Then I have to remove each errant tag. I have no idea whether I am missing photos that I had tagged correctly. This seems like a database bug. I have been using Photoshop Elements for ten years, so I have a lot of tags. The stars also have many errors. Help!

This happens when you assign a tag with more thumbnails selected than you want. So, a common user error, certainly not a bug.

When that happens, the organizer helps you to select the files for which you want to remove the tag. Highlighting wrong files is totally random, so only a visual search by yourself can find them (no logical criteria).

- select and display all files with the tag

- highlight those which are wrong

- delete the tag for all the highlighted files (not one by one).

No, that is not the problem. I have been using PE for 10 years, so I know how to select and tag photos. The photos with the wrong tags were tagged years ago -- correctly. But they have somehow acquired wrong tags.

All old Elements users have probably made the same errors. Yes, human error is the problem, it happened to me as well.

Selecting visually wrongly tagged thumbnails is the necessary and slow step. Once they have been selected, you remove the wrong tag for all in one step.
