text edits are not visible until commit

Whe editing text , the cursor will place as normal, however any overtyping, character deleting, font changes, color changes, etc ... are not visible until green x 'commit' is clicked.  Essentialy all text editing must be done blind  ... no changes are visible.

Windows 10 updated,  PS Elements v21... I've uninsatlled and re-installed multiple times.  The software is useless in this state ... help please:)
