Text on shape.

I have Elements 2023 for PC.  I can get “Text on shape” to work fine on a new blank file.  I’ve even tried on a file with a color fill and saved as a jpeg, then re-opened, and it was fine.  When I try on a file with a photo as the background layer, I get to where you add text and don’t get a cursor, just a blinking dot.  If I try and type nothing shows.  I have made sure everything is in contrasting colors so nothing would seem hidden.  What could I be missing?

Edit:  After some experimenting, I found that it is actually working but the type is very small.  I set the type size to 60pt. and it appeared as about 8pt.  Now my question is why so small on a photo jpeg and normal size on my blank jpeg?

That wouldn’t be unusual if your background image has a high pixel count.  Go to, Image> Resize> Image Size to see what your background’s resolution is.

I figured that out while I was away testing.  I changed the size of the photo to the size of a blank file and it worked fine.  Thanks for the push in the right direction.

    Is your background layer locked?

Yes, it was partially locked.  I unlocked it and tried again and still nothing.
