The 'not enough memory (RAM)' issue

I am getting the 'An integer between 50 and 8 is required' message on my Elements14 Windows 8 setup. The workaround in FAQs mentions Windows 10. Should I follow the same method as that quoted for Windows 10? Thanks

My Issues started a couple of days ago with being unable to save images due to insufficient RAM. I have done some research and someone suggested adjusting settings in preferences. I tried to adjust this but it brings up an error of integer settings being between 50 and 6.... and I tried the other suggestion of resetting the regidit but that wasn't successful. I have Photoshop 13 and never had this problem. the 2018 version seems almost the same as 2013! Not happy!!!! Can someone please sort this out!

You don't 'reset' the Windows Registry (with the regedit Microsoft tool). You use it to add a setting for Windows 10 to work around the issue Microsoft made by replacing its good old Windows 10 version by another buggy one. The support software in the operating system has been replaced on your computer by the update. All Elements versions were using some code from the old support software which is no longer present. The new software requires reprogramming PSE14, 15 and 2018, and that is not going to happen. So Adobe found the workaround to edit the Windows 10 Registry, and that works with the above versions.

Read the previous posts in this discussion, or some of the hundreds of other discussions. If your try to edit the registry failed, give us some info to help you. For instance, your RAM amount (4GB ?) - copy the first 12 lines of the info you get with the menu File >> Info. Better yet, a screenshot of your registry with the added value.

Hi Michael

I resorted to going back to my Photoshop Elements 13. I think I need to try to get a refund as the 2018 version of Photoshop doesn't seem to work on my computer. I have 4MB Ram and I don't need to buy a new computer. I must say that Windows 10 has been a disaster for me in that the bugs in it have caused so much downtime with their constant updating of their system.

With the number of cases the workaround has been applied, my guess is that the worst risk is that it may not work. There has been no report that the registry change has created severe issues. You simply delete the added lines if it does not work.

Since it's a problem with RAM, could you post the first twelve lines of the dialog you get from the menu Help >> System Information? Also what are the settings of your preferences for scratch disks (a screenshot might help).
