Question

Thumbnails are in wrong aspect

I moved a bunch of folders around (in PSE Organizer 2018) to consolidate them into a logical structure.  Elements Organizer seems to have generated new thumbnails, and they are all in landscape aspect, even for photos that are in portrait aspects.  'Update Thumbnail" seems to do nothing for me.  Does anybody have any idea what I can try next?

This is on a Mac running High Sierra.  I don't see anything indicating Organizer can't find picture files.

I have the same issue on a PC running Windows 10.  The adaptive grid does not always crop - it works correctly when I select most tags (but not all) or most folders (but not all) but returns to a uniform, non-adaptive grid when I return to all photos.

I am back home to test the adaptative view and I do find the change you are seeing.

It seems this viewing mode has been totally changed:

    - all images have the same size (whether in portrait or landscape mode) and a cropping is done

    - The display is much faster

    - The stacks and version sets small icons are visible like in detailed view.

So, it seems that the change is 'as designed' and not a bug, but I had not seen any information about that.

In my case, the 'adaptative grid' is used for fast visual browsing, otherwise I stay in detailed view. I tend to prefer a very fast browsing to an accurate cropping, but you may have a different choice...

Thanks Michel.  I'll stop trying to fix it and keep using the detail view.

I can't help for specific Mac questions, but I think a screenshot of your unusual thumbnails would help expert Mac users to help you.

As suggested, here are the thumbnail and the original image.

Your screenshot displays the 'adaptative grid' view.

It should show your thumbnails filling entirely the browsing space, without any text (date, file name).

Just use the menu View >> details (shortcut Ctrl D in Windows) to display your thumbnails with date, file name and stacks/version sets small icons.

Both views should show each thumbnail entirely and not crop them.
