Thumbnails not working

When saving  I do not get a thumbnail image in the Organiser only a box with an hourglass. This with both 2018 and 2014 and happened suddenly over the last couple of days. I have tried updating the thumbnails but end up with the same result. I am scared to process anything now as I may lose all my thumbnails

    You can follow Dhananjay advice without any risk of loss. As you can see, if the file containing the thumbnails is deleted, it will be totally rebuilt. Let your computer run in a night job while the cache is rebuilt, since that takes time.

    Thank you for the help. I have gone through to the renaming of the file, however I am not allowed to do this as it tells me it is open in ElementsSmartTag, despite Elements being shut down. I feel sure there is something I am not doing but I lack the expertise to see it

    Yes, I have already seen this problem. The smarttags background process is running.

    To stop it, at least to solve your thumbnail regeneration, do the following:

    - In the menu Edit >> Preferences or the organizer, select the 'media analysis' tab and deselect the option.

    Then use the Windows task manager (Ctrl - Shift - Alt).

    Click on the '>' sign before 'Elements 2018 Organizer' to display the processes used by the Organizer.

    Right click on the smarttag line and choose 'delete'.

    Restart the Organizer.
