Transferring pictures from another photo program to Adobe Elements

I have about 5000 photos in iPhotos. When I try to transfer pictures from this program to Adobe Images, it transfers over 17,000 images because it is recognizing faces and various other objects in the picture and they show up as separate images. I can not figure out how this is happening and how to fix the problem.
