Trouble Cloning

I'm using Elements 8 and I'm unable to use the Clone Stamp Tool. I hold the ALT key down while I click and copy an image for cloning (the cross-hairs appear when I click so it looks like step one worked fine). Next I lay the circular cursor over the area I want to clone, then I click....but absolutely nothing happens. I'm unable to transfer the area I copied to the area I'm trying to clone. I've used this tool for many years and have never encountered this problem. What am I overlooking? Thank you very much.      Gene

    Suggest that you reset the tool. To do that, click on the little triangle on the tool's option bar, top left, and reset.

    If you are trying to clone from one layer to another, make sure the Use All Layers box is checked.

    Do you have the correct layer(s) selected in the Layers Panel?
