Trouble importing from card

I recently rented a Canon 80D and used a SDHC card that also contains images taken on an SL1. I can view all the pics from both cameras on the back of the 80D and my husband can view all the pics from both cameras on his desktop. The majority of the pics are RAW. I take the card out of the camera and insert it into my laptop to import the images into PSE12 (Windows 7). The only pics from the card that will import are the ones taken with the SL1(RAW & JPEG), (and 1 image from the 80D that is a jpeg), the ones taken with the 80D (RAW) show up as blue thumbprints. I tried importing one of those and got a dialog box with the following "Nothing was imported. The file or folder selected to import did not contain any supported file types, or the file is already in this catalog."  Below that it states "The file is damaged or is in a format that cannot be included in Elements Organizer." Can someone help me? TYIA

Your PSE12 is too old to support the raw format of the 80D.

FAQ: Will Photoshop Elements work with my camera, or Why won't my raw files open?

Every camera model is issued with a totally new  raw format.

See the two links in the faq:

    Cameras supported by Camera Raw

    and

Camera Raw plug-in and Adobe application compatibility

If you don't want to pay the upgrade to the current PSE 2018, your free solution is to download and use the free Adobe DNGconverter mentioned in the faq. That independent software (not a plugin) can batch convert your CR2 files to the DNG raw format that PSE12 can read and edit; an additional batch step, but free and with the same quality.

Thank you very much for your reply! I wondered if that might be the problem, just wanted some assurance from someone with more "experience" than me.
