Question

"Unable to continue because of a hardware or system error" message

I run Windows 10 Creators Update, and have Photoshop Elements 10. Photoshop stopped working suddenly this morning when I tried to use it - I have used it as recently as yesterday - and I am receiving the dreaded "Unable to continue..." message. Nothing I have read in any Adobe forum, or anywhere else for that matter, solves this problem. I have uninstalled and reinstalled, I have deleted the settings file via alt ctrl shift,  and nothing helps. I know that Adobe has newer products, but not to offer some kind of solution for this is very disappointing. I suspect I will not find an answer here, but the next thing after this query is to delete Photoshop and try some non-Adobe something else.

Any suggestions? Anyone? The Adobe tech guys told me I was out of luck because of 10's age - they have obviously, and sadly, moved on. Anybody else found a solution?

Owners of old programs simply have problems with Windows 10... none of which is Adobe's fault... Adobe did not change your old program to make it stop working... Microsoft changed their operating system and THAT is why your old program won't work, not because of anything Adobe did... Also... every time Microsoft issues a Win10 update, there is the risk that an old program that HAS been working after the initial Win10 upgrade will STOP working... bottom line, old programs require a matching old operating system

Two ideas that MAY work to install and/or run old programs in Windows 10

-RIGHT click the program icon or EXE and select a compatibility mode in the pop up option window

-or Run as Administrator http://forums.adobe.com/thread/969395 to assign FULL Windows permissions may help... says Encore, but sometimes required for ALL Adobe programs (this is NOT the same as using an Administrator account)

    -or more on permissions https://forums.adobe.com/thread/2293598

    John, several things.

First, the idea that this is Microsoft's problem is preposterous. Everything on my old warhorse - dozens of programs - works fine, through Windows 7, 10 update, Creators Update. Photoshop has been having this "Unable to continue" problem since 2008, at least. Adobe is failing to service their customers.

Next, and not surprisingly, none of your suggestions work - and one of your links is a dead end, fyi.
