Update download locks computer

My problem started when I failed to delete one of my older computers off the record.  Adobe then blocked me from using any of the Elements programs.  After removing the offending computer and contacting Adobe, Adobe reset things on their end.  However, now, whenever I am finished working in Elements and go to close that program, it begins an update download.  After downloading 6.5% of the update, the download locks up.  Then, when I'm ready to close down my computer, it has to be forced to shut down.  This problem started at the same time as when Adobe reset my acct.  I have not been able to find help in resolving this problem with Adobe.  Any ideas????
