Couple of suggestions you can try:

    1. In Adobe Photoshop Elements 2026 Editor>Settings>General, uncheck Enable Crop Pre-Selection and check Use Classic Crop Mode, then restart Photoshop Elements.
    2. In Adobe Photoshop Elements 2026 Editor>Settings>Performance under Advanced Settings check GPU compositing and restart Photoshop Elements.

I am having performance issues as well. I was running the 2021 version of PSE on my MacBook Air M2 8g ram with few issues. (it would randomly crash all the time but work flow was pretty decent). I upgraded my MacBook to Tahoe and was forced to get the 2026 version of PSE since 2021 version was not supported. I noticed a significant change in how fast PSE ran. Almost every single time I tried to resize something its was a good 5-6 seconds or longer before I could perform any other action. The square paint brushes are no longer are square, they fade out to nothing on the bottom right corner. Resizing things, the constrain perportion button automatically unchecks it self every single time I make an adjustment. It's just a night mare to use and its riddles with bugs. So I bought a brand new MacBook Air M4 with 24g of ram, thinking this would fix the issues. There was no improvement in the performance. I completely uninstalled PSE and reinstalled. Made sure everything is up to date. Tweaked settings. Nothing helps.

I was about to go out and buy a new MacBook too. How did they release this with such slow processing of the cropping? Although I do like the revised brightness values.

Unacceptably slow to resize, crop. Forced to go to ‘26 after upgrade to Tahoe. Adobe - fix and update. I had a chat session. My driver, Ram, OS, videocard are fine. The tech did change some file names adding “old”. I think he put some old 2021 files back in. Cropping went from 10 second “stalls” to 6 seconds. Fix it please.

Slow performance is typically attributed to a few  things:

    1.  Outdated video drivers.
    2. Lack of ram.
    3. your operating system-- what version of Tahoe?

    4. You don’t have your videocard settings correctly configured-- it’s in the performance area of your preference file.
