Using Photoshop Elements 2021 running on Mac OS 13.4.1 on Intel iMac.  Recently updated Camera Raw to 15.5 and now get an error message when opening Nikon Z 6ii NEF file that they are not supported.  What is the fix/solution for this error?

Thanks!

Sounds like you installed the camera raw 15.5 update that was listed in the Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop Application.

If so, that is for Photoshop CC and to update photoshop elements you can try the following directions:

  • Navigate to the following folder:

    • On macOS: /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-ins/CC/File Formats
    • On Windows: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CC\File Formats
  • Copy the Camera Raw plug-in from the CC > File Formats folder that is mentioned in the above step.

  • Navigate to the following folder:

    • On macOS: /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-ins/Elements<Version Number>/File Formats
    • On Windows: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\Elements<Version Number>\File Formats
  • Replace the existing Camera Raw plugin in Elements<Version Number> folder with the plug-in that you copied in step 8.

Thank you for the information and instructions. I downloaded 15.5 and 14.5 of ACR. 15.5 does not work. However, 14.5 does work with PSE 2021, and fixes the Nikon Z6ii issue.

Thanks!

Camera raw 15.5 should work in photoshop elements 2021

Shown on a 2012 MacBook Pro running macOS Catalina 10.5.7

Jeff knows way more about Macs than I do, but I seriously doubt that you can update Elements 2021 to ACR 15.5. Officially, Elements 2021 supports ACR 13.0.  Even using the available workaround, I don't think Windows can be updated beyond ACR 13.4.  (Your camera requires ACR 13.1 and you can install that version using these instructions found on the Archive.org website.  You must follow the instructions precisely.  Although these instructions were supported by Adobe, that support has apparently disappeared and the link to the original webpage is no longer available.  So, use at your own risk.  (I have never had a problem with it, and I use it all the time.)

BTW, if your intention in upgrading ACR to 15.x was to get all the new features available, forget about it. Elements will only use a crippled version of the Photosop CC version of ACR.  The only reason to try the upgrade is to support a new camera.

Thank you for the note. My error, actual raw version is 13.0.0619. But, the issue of not being able to open Z 6ii nef files remains.

My error. Not sure where that came from. Raw version is 13.0.0612. Regardless my issue remains opening Nikon Z6ii nef files.
