Question

upgrade from elements 2020 to 2025 spinning beach ball when trying to use Organizer

I have a desktop imac mac os Sequoia 15.5. 3GHz 6 Core intel Core i5. 8GB memory, 1 TB harddrive. 5 TB external harddrive.

I upgraded through Adobe account. First time I installed the application it would not download the images into Organizer. I contacted Adobe and followed instructions to reset the preferences, create new catalog, deselect all checkboxes in Media Analysis and Files tab. If it doesn't repond then reinstall the application. After reinstalling the app the Organizer took 3 days to import the 171,364 items.

Now it takes 15 minutes to open and everytime I move the curser to click on anything it stalls and spinns the beach ball for 10+ minutes.

Preferences, file, edit, etc are all greyed out. I can not quit the application but have to force quit.

The Elements Editor works well.

Any advise on how to get this Organizer to respond?

Thanks for all assistance.

UPDATE - July 4th, 2025

Elements Organizer and Editor 2025 are now working. I deleated lots of photos I will not miss (40,000 out of 171,346). Previoulsy i had reinstalled the app. leaving the previously installed 2025 app but this time I uninstalled the 2025 app and reinstalled it.

A couple of other things to try are:

1. In the Organizer preferences go to Media-Analysis and uncheck everything there.

2. In the Organizer go to File>Watch Folders and uncheck any of those.

Thanks for the suggestion Jeff. Organizer is still very slow with the spinning beach ball everytime I move the curser. All 171,346 images did load. I can not move the curser though due to spinning beach ball reaction to look through them.

I know nothing about Macs, so I am going to ping @Jeff Arola, another Community Expert who may be able to offer you some advice.

Have you tried unchecking all the boxes for Autosync in Preferences?  If not, that is a likely cause of the problem.  If you are still having problems getting into Preferences do the following:

  • Press the Shift key while launching the Organizer.  (I am only familiar with Windows, so I hope this also works with a Mac.)  This should open the Catalog Manager.
  • Create and open a new empty catalog.
  • Go to Preferences and uncheck all the Auto sync boxes.
  • Relaunch the Organizer and change back to your main catalog from File>Manage Catalogs.

Thank you for replying Greg_S. I did what you suggested. Organizer is a little better, opens in 10 minutes instead of 15. When ever I move the curser the spinning beach ball still occurs and it takes 3 or so minutes for it to stop. I still have to force quit.

My 1 TB hard drive is only half full but my external 5TB harddrive is at 4.3TB. Not sure if that is slowing it down or not. Also I did not delete the previous elements app.

Sorry I forgot to mention the autosync was not checked in Preferences. Any other suggestions are appreciated. Thank you. Gael
