Upgrading 15 to 2018 moves files

PE15 is working fine. Made a backup. Downloaded PE2018. Paid for it. Installed it. First problem: it couldn’t locate my Catalog And it made a new one with the 17 photos it could find on my c: drive. My 3000+ photos are stored on my F: drive in the OneDrive folder, about half of them have so been included in my PE catalog, face-tagged and geotagged through the Places function. I presume the PE15 catalog is in c:/ProgramData/Adobe/Elements Organizer/catalogs/My Catalog. There is a file there called catalog.pse15db but when I select it, the Open button is still greyed out. So I tried to do a Restore from the backup. This appears to work fine except the Converting Catalog process has copied all the PE Catalog photos into a new sub-folder In OneDrive. Now I have 2 sets on my OneDrive. What did I do wrong? PE15 is still reading the old catalog with the files in their original place.

When you first installed PSE 2018, normally you are given an option to convert your last used Catalog - in your case the Catalog of your PSE 15 installation. If you would have chosen to do that, PSE 2018 would then convert your PSE 15 Catalog for use with PSE 2018.

For what ever reason, you did not choose that option, however you can do it now. From PSE 2018, select File > Manage Catalogs > Convert. Hopefully you will see your PSE 2015 Catalog in the list and can convert it by selecting it. If not there is a browse button to search for other catalogs, by which you can locate your PSE 2015 catalog and convert it. Afterwards, you can use Help > System Info to review its location if you want.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Don26812. I just got confused by the Catalog Manager dialog. On that first instance, I thought 2018 would be smart enough to find my 15 catalog even though it was on another drive, but it didn't show up in the dialog under the "Catalogs accessible" options. So I browsed for it under "Custom", found it and then discovered that the "Open" button was still greyed out. That's where my logic was different from the program. I see now the program wanted me to "Convert". I suggest the programming could have been a little more user-friendly. Anyway, I've got it sorted now. So thanks.
