Upgrading of PSE 7

I have used PSE7 for several years on my Win7 and now Win10 PC. Have not dared to upgrade to Win11 yet.

But I recently noticed that though the exif data is there and it shows the camera model, focal lengths, f values, shutter speeds etc under Properties in PSE7 it does not show what lense I have used. I googled this and it was suggested that newer cameras/lenses might not show up in older software. I have even looked back ca 10 years in my catalogue when I has older DSLR and there is still no lense info.

So, I thought I might try to upgrade PSE to a later version.

My question how high a version can I go so that my backup file from PSE7 will be imported?

In Photoshop CS5, in the Camera Raw dialog under Lens Corrections might list the make and model of the lens.

I don't know but I would guess that all PSE upgrades retain all camera and file information. You might try a trial of PSE 2026. PSE 2025 is the last non-subscription version.

Keeping up gets harder the furtherer behind.

PSE 2024 is the last version without a 3 year lifespan. Beginning witht PSE 2025 forward it's all (photoshop elements) a 3 year term limit.

"Upgrades" referes to a new version- pse 2023, pse 2024, pse 2025 are upgrades. Typically only about 2 or three updates (usually behind the scenes type stuff) per version.

PS5 (Photoshop 5) was released close to 16 years ago.

PSE 2007 can show basic lens info.
PSE7 was released about 19 years ago.

If you continue to use such old software you simply are going to miss out on new features and abilities.
You're good to go if "good enough" works for you.

Adobe Camera raw updates contain camera/lens info, not the main program.

thanks Glenn 8675309, "good enough" is fine, I was just surprised to see all the exif data but not the actual lense info. But I will look into a more recent version of both PS and PSE.

Below is a screenshot of a files info from Photoshop- which does contain lens data. Lens data / type is not available in
PSE. The canon S95 is a point and shoot camera- it does not have interchaangeabale lenses.

This is a screenshot of the image info of a image taken with a camera with interchangeable lenses. When I took this image I had a 50-300 (maybe 75-300?) lens attched to the camera. The camera was mounted on a tripod. There is more lens info with this one- but still, as an average Joe- I don't really care about the info.

Below this is the file>info from a bigger camera that I can attach different lens to, in PSE. Why no serial number? I dunno, it's a walmart camera, and the lens came with the camera. I also have no idea what do with the lens info other than it tells me I had the bigger lens attached to the camera.

Below is the file info of an image taken with my wife's phone last year or two.

This is the file info from an Image I took using some 35mm film camera, April of 2000 in Cairo (I used to live in egypt)- back then all this exif data wasn't included with film images.

And finally, an image in win11 file explorer: It tells me my wife's phone took this image, but contains very little useful image (useful to the average user)

I have been using PS5 Extended (ver 12.0) together with PSE 7 for a number of years on my Win 10 PC. Neither of them seem to show which lense I have used when I use a Sony A100 or a A77 with different lenses.

Are you looking under Window>Properties>Metadata in the PSE 7 Organizer?

Do you recall if it was the same under Windows 7?

Later versions of the PES Organizer, like the current version PSE 2026 only show the focal length and don't specify a specific lens as far as i can tell.
