Upper case only in PSE 11

I am trying to create some family calendars in Elements 11 but when I try to add text to pictures or dates I can only get  upper case despite it showing in lower case in the layers panel.This happens on both laptop & desktop even though they were installed at different times (from same disc) & the desktop had complete reinstall earlier in the year. This happened last year & somebody told me how to fix it but it only worked once & then reverted back to upper case only (forgotten what the solution was)
