Hi - I have recently moved to PSE from Photoshop and cannot see how to switch from Scrubby Zoom to Marquee Zoom. Instructions say that there is an option to do that in the Zoom (magnifying glass) Options panel, but it isn't in mine!
From the Adobe Help site, Virtual Assistant feature - " . . . In Photoshop Elements, you can zoom into a specific area of your image by using the Zoom tool combined with a marquee rectangle selection, without relying on scrubby zoom. Follow these steps:
Select the Zoom tool from the toolbar.
In the Tool Options bar, ensure the Zoom In option is selected (not Scrubby Zoom).
Click and drag a rectangular marquee over the area of the image you want to zoom into. This will zoom the view to fit the selected area precisely. This method allows precise zooming to a defined rectangular area without the scrubby zoom effect.
.
This would be ideal, but does not happen on my installation !
Another way to change a view is to zoom to a target area in an image. Here’s how:
- Click the Zoom tool on the Tools panel (or press Z)- Drag a box around the area you want to zoom.
Keep the mouse button pressed, and as you drag the mouse, a dashed rectangle marquee appears. - Release the mouse button. The view zooms to fit the space defined by the marquee rectangle. . ??
In the Navigator panel you can press the Ctrl key and then drag a marquee around the area to zoom into, much like using the Zoom Tool without Scrubby Zoom enabled.
On the Mac side hold down the Cmd key and drag out the marquee.
As far as I can tell, there doesn't seem to be a keyboard shortcut in either Photoshop or Photoshop Elements to toggle Scrubby Zoom on/off.
To use marquee zoom, select theZoomtool or hold downCommand + Spacebar(mac)/Control + Spacebar(windows) and click and drag out a marquee (rectangle) around the area you want to zoom in on with your mouse. The marquee is show on screen as dashed lines – see image below.
Now release your mouse, yes I know – wow, you have just zoomed into the area you wanted too.
Thanks 99jon, but I want to use a marquee to define a zoom area, not create a zoom at a point. Very easy in PS and there is supposed to be a switch in the Zoom toolset to switch between scrubby and marquee . . . but I can't see it (see my screenshot in my second post) (not the first, which was a mistake).
