Using Camera Raw in Elements 2020

I used Camera Raw in Elements 2020 to improve a JPG photo. I want to save it with the changes as a JPG to share it via email. When I save it, Camera Raw makes it a DNG.  How do I either convert it to JPG or save it as a JPG copy?

Just yet another suggestion:

- In the ACR window, click the "gear" button (fig. 1).

- In the "ACR Preferences" dialog, pull the "Sidecars" menu and choose "Always use sidecar XMP files" (fig. 2).

Thus, your corrections will be saved to external XMP files (no DNG's).

The original JPEG's may stay untouched / unsaved.

The edited image can be exported with the "File > Save for Web" command.

Click 'Open' and the converted version will open in the normal editor where you can do what you want as usual: editing, printing, saving to a new format. Ignore the 'save' button which is only for conversion to DNG raw format.

Just be sure to select '8 bits' on the bottom because jpegs don't support 16 bits.

You can batch convert raw files to jpeg in the editor with the File >> Process multiple files command or from the Organizer from the 'export' to new files command.

This does not seem to be the case in Elements.  In mine, no matter what I do, opening a DNG always fires up Camera Raw 13, and from there, there is no option to conver to a JPG.  Using the only thing available to save, which is the "convert and save" icon, it will only save as a DNG.  Thus, there seems to be no way to actually convert from a DNG into anything else.

I'm running photoshop elements 2021, v19.  This is on a work computer.  At home, I'm subscribed to the real Photoshop, and it works fine.  Elements seems like a completely different (and to me, very unfamiliar) user interface.

Just choose SAVE AS and pick a format.   The screenshot was made using PSE 2020.

If you still can't do it becuase as you described earlier:   Reset your preferences.   Restart the editor and you should be good to go.
