I noticed my photographs are given the "untagged RGB" color profile.  I saw this when I looked at the metadata for the images. What is this and why are they "untagged RGB"?

As explained, it's not a color profile. It's the lack of a profile. There is no profile to give a meaning to the R, G and B values.

What's the origin of your files, from a camera, scanning, from the Web?
