Why did the Smart Brush in PE13 stop working?

I have been using the Smart Brush problem free until recently.  It simply will not work and I don't know why.  Tonight it froze the whole program and I had to Force Quit. Can anyone help? I am on a Mac OS Sierra.

    Probably you need to reset the tool so that it is back to normal.  Can you still open it or is it just refusing to open completely?  To open it Press the letter F and then at the bottom of the Screen, you will see something like this:

    Notice the red boxed item in the picture that allows you to reset the tool or all tools.  I suggest reset all tools so that you are back to default for all tools.

    After that, close PSE and then launch it again to see if it works OK this time.
