Why does Photoshop elements keep kicking me off in the middle of edits

I am trying to create a sports collage with Photoshop elements. I open several files to copy and paste to my main collage... sometimes it works but most the time it kicks me off after I try to paste an image to the main collage.. anyone know why this keeps doing this and how to fix it?
