Question

Why I didn't purchase Adobe Photo Elements 15

I'm a longtime Windows Photo Gallery user who needed to find a replacement for that discontinued software.

I tried Adobe Photo Elements 15 and (for now) haven't purchased it.   I'm writing to the Forum because

1) Maybe the problems I've experienced are about usability rather than functionality, and I might want to purchase APE15 if I just know how to use it

2) I'd like Adobe to know why I made this decision.

Unfortunately this will be a bit vague because most of my use was about 3 weeks ago....

I appreciate the editing capability of Adobe Photo Elements (though I still didn't find some basic parts easy to use), but the Organizer is why I really can't see using the software in the long run.

a) In "Media", no amount of clicking "Show all Subfolders" would actually make the subfolders display....

b) Importing photos was not intuitive.  When I had made a new subfolder outside of APE, it was not included in the Organizer.   This was never a problem in Windows Photo Gallery -- if "2017" or even "Pictures" was part of the organizer, all photos would show up when I opened the program

Those were the biggest problems in basic orientation.  I was also confused by navigating "people", "places", etc and the use of filters.

My guess is that the family version isn't simplified enough for non-professionals.

Did I just go about learning APE in the wrong way?  (I did watch some videos and click through forums, but IIRC it wasn't helpful.)   Or are these real limitations for casual users?

Thanks for your attention

It seems like Importing and Filtering to both control and find photos is unfamiliar and you may already have organized things via a folder structure. Perhaps Organizer is made for people who are less organized.

The Adobe pro product that uses Importing is Lightroom. As Peru Bob refers to, the Adobe pro product that mirrors the file system is Bridge that comes with Photoshop.

I can't help you with the organizer because I don't use it.

I prefer to use Windows Explorer to manage my photos.

You may want to have a look at Adobe Bridge:
