I’m not really following why you can’t save Jpegs.

That warning is just that; a warning or reminder that some data will not be saved if you have layers or an supported Bit Depth like 16 Bits/Channel and you can click on the warning button to see an explanation.

When saving to Jpeg the Image is flattened and turned to 8 Bits/Channel just like it was in PSE 2024.

For example, if you select your desktop to save the Jpeg to, is it saved there?

Are you trying to save over Jpegs of the same name?

I found all the replys were vauble, my question was answerd but i failed to get my photos saved  in JPEG. To bring you up to date i used Photo Editor where i have  i pushed my photos through all 2026 boxs without using layers etc..However I have made changes in Guided Edits and in RAW, they failed to save. . I have resized my photos from 16 bits to 8  - 1600x1200 pixels they have failed. When trying to save I have spotted the save as a copy light box goes dull like its failing to respond

Your screenshots suggest that you are trying to save a file named DOG 1 into a folder that already has a file named dog 1.  This would be the same file as far as Windows is concerned and you would then get a warning that you are trying to overwrite a file with the same name.

Having said that, there is a bug in Elements 2026 that does not automatically rename the file.  You have not answered whether you use the Organizer (to organize your files, not to edit them), although you have checked the box to save in the Organizer.  (This is probably the default whether you use the Organizer or not.)  I have found that there is a workaround to renaming the files automatically.  Simply check the Save in Version Set with Original box.  Or if it is already checked, toggle the box off and back on.

Another issue I see is that you may be saving the file to a memory card.  Perhaps the card is full or is write-protected.

This warning sign in Photoshop Elements 2026 is likely a new interface feature intended to warn you about data loss or compatibility, but it has also been linked to a specific bug in the early build of the 2026 version.

What is the format of the original file that is being edited?

Are you using the Organizer?  Whether or not you are, try toggling the Save in Version Set box.

Are you using File>Save or File>Save As options?  If you are editing a jpeg file and using the File>Save option (or simply closing the file or the program), you are getting the warning to avoid overwriting the file.  Try the File>Save As option and checking the Save as Copy option or toggle the Save in Version Set option.  Either option should add an automatic suffix to the file name and the jpeg will then save without a warning.

    Greg

I am using Photo Editor. I always use save;  tick the box “as a copy”. The warning sign will only be seen when trying to save in JPEG only..I am now coming to the conclusion when my friend was checking out Elements  2026 to purchase she had a query / found problem and contacted Adobe support agent for a fix

After giving permission to  access my machine , the agent later refused to carry out any more work until McAfee was installed she refused because my machine is covered by a reportable company.

My machine was returned in a scrabbled condition and with no anti-virus. I paid a proffessional to restore my computer

“After giving permission to  access my machine , the agent later refused to carry out any more work until McAfee was installed”   Now that seems like something a scammer would say- not an actual Adobe employee---  how do you know it was an actual Adobe Agent?

Hopefully it wasn’t by responding to an outlook.com email address- scammers like to use that to “look official”

Since Jpegs don’t support layers or 16 Bits/Channel, if in the process of your editing you either opened a Camera Raw file in 16 Bits Channel or added Layers, then the Save as a Copy means the image will be converted 8 Bits/Channel and/or flattened to just a Background Layer before saving.

Are you doing any edits that create layers?

Is it warning you that saving as JPG always causes permanent data loss?

What operating system are you using?

Can you post a screenshot of the warning your seeing?

If you hold your mouse on the the warning symbol does a tooltip show that explains what the warning means?

Thank you for your reply . When I opened the warning box it suggestes  “the format must be saved as a copy”. Which i do. I have noticed when saving in JPEG the save a copy box goes dull  where in GIF PNG Tift etc it stays bright with no warning sign. Would you agree my fualt could be when trying to save in JPEG the save a copy tool is not active where in the others areas it works. Have you any ideals how a novice can do a fix? Looking forward in readying your reply

Adobe is aware of problems with save as a copy and in a version set. We can expect the next update to fix this. But nobody knows the timescale so stay tuned.

In the meantime try using save for web. Not ideal for prints but   JPEGs  are suitable for most other purposes.
