Why is the "Copy photos" feature for import from folders greyed out?

Hello,

I want to use Organizer to import photos from my Google Fotos folder that is automatically syncronising. Time by time, I want to delete photos from the Google Fotos folder to save space.

First of all, the feature "in bulk" (Abschnittsweise in German) seems to be right. BUT Organizer does not copy the photos, so the original is still in the Google Fotos folder and when I delete it, it is gone.

I want to use the "Copy photos" feature, but is greyed out. Why? This is really annoying, since me and many other people want to use it for different reasons.

  • Automatical import from other folders
  • Cleaning up harddrive
  • etc.

I already imported >300GB photos from Apple Photos, started to organise them etc. just to find out they are still saved in the cloud and Adobe Organizer didn't create an own library with copies of the originals like it does when I import from a camera.

Please tell me why the team made the decision to grey the feature out and make in not usable for people who need it.

Thanks and kind regards

Martin

    Nonsense.

Nobody decided more than  fifteen years ago to 'grey out' the feature. The feature was obviously added to combine the 'upload' feature from cameras, card readers with the general 'import' (I would have prefered the words 'indexing' or 'cataloging' of the information like location, exif and tagging) for files already in the computer.

That means that there is no need to copy something which is already in your computer. That's mainly true for external drives or attached network drives. The Google, Onedrive or Dropbox synched folders are in your computer. What is stored in the Cloud by such services is not indexed in the catalog.

You may have good reasons to wish to duplicate or archive part of your library. That's something the organizer makes easy.

I don't use Macs, so I can only imagine that it works like the above services.
