Windows 10 creator update messes with the palette

This is a big problem because Microsoft, by hook or by crook, wants to update you with this garbage. On my desktop, I was unable to stop the update, and the effects are shown in the image below. On my laptop, when I got the MS message 'updating your computer, do not turn it off', I immediately turned it off and prevented the update. So PSE 14 still works, but sooner or later MS will figure out a way to update me anyway. (BTW, I much preferred PSE 7, but the font problem caused by Creators update killed that.)

So is there a fix to this problem? I'm not opposed to spending money to fix it, but I'm not going to go to the subscription model of PSE.
