Windows 10 not showing Elements 14 as an option to open certain file types anymore

I recently used the trial version of Elements 22 but then uninstalled and went back to my Elements 14 (still installed on my Windows 10 computer). 

Elements no longer shows as an option when setting default apps. If I click on an image and tell it to open with Elements - it doesn't work. If I open Elements and then click File, Open I CAN get an image to open,

 

How do I get Elements back as the default app? How do I get Windows to see it as an option?

  • In Windows Explorer, find any file of the type you wish to open automatically in Elements 14. 
  • Right-click on it and choose Open With from the context menu.
  • If Elements 14 is not shown as an option, go to the bottom of the list and choose Select another application.
  • If Elements 14 does not show up in that dropdown list, scroll to the bottom again and choose More Apps.
  • If you still don't see Elements 14, scroll down to the bottom of the list again and choose Look for another app on this PC.
  • Navigate to the C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 14 folder and select PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe file.
  • Make sure you check the box to always use this app to open [file type]

 

Alternatively, uninstall and reinstall Elements 14.

Right clicking will open Elements as an option. But the program will open and the photo won't appear in the workspace. I can ONLY get an image to open up in Elements if the program is open, I click on File and Open and select an image. Then it WILL open.

This doesn't work. Elements doesn't show up as an option even though it's installed on my computer.

Also - if I right click an image (like in my Pictures folder) and tell it to open with Elements 14, the program will open. The photo will not appear in the workspace. 

Also - if the program is open and I go to File - Open and select a photo, then it WILL open up in the workspace.
