Elements 19 - Converting 1920 x 1440 to 1920 x 1080

Premiere Elements 19

I recently purchased a new GoPro Hero7 Silver, not realizing there are only 2 default resolutions to shoot in 4k (16:9) and 1440 (4:3).

I'm trying to put together a vacation video, but want it to be in 16:9.  Is there an easier way to crop the video down to 1080 other than just using the "motion" editor and zooming in to 133.33%?  It seems very tedious to do this with every single clip I import.


This is my first go around with Elements and can't imagine that is the only way.

    Hi pjboardin,

    Thanks for reaching out. I agree with the suggestions given by whsprague . Also, have a look at this youtube link: Adobe Premiere Elements 12 Tutorial | Adjusting Project Settings - YouTube

    It gives insight about the process to change the project settings. The changes will take place for the entire timeline. Though this video is about Elements 12, it will work for the latest version as well: Adjust project settings and presets for Adobe Premiere Elements

    You can change the frame size by following the path: Edit > Project Settings > General > Video.

    Once you have made the changes to the frame size for the entire timeline, you can export the project with the desired settings.

    It doesn't seem possible on any of the Elements version to adjust the resolution from 1920x1080 to 1440x1080, either when creating or after creating the project. Everything is Greyed out.
    Can adobe fix this.
    A lot of older videos consumers are trying to edit stem from 4:3 formats, so not being able to adjust these settings like in Premiere Pro is a gross oversight...

    In the expert view, you can try to copy and paste the effect.   Right click on one clip you have enlarged to 133%.  Select the rest of the clips, right click and you should see a "Paste Adjustments and Effects".  That will apply the 133% to all the selected clips. 

    It will also apply ALL the adjustments and effects from that first clip.  You can be sure it is the first thing you do before you add any other effects or adjustments.  Or you could put a clip on the timeline temporarily, make the single adjustment to 133%, copy/paste to selected clips and delete the temporary from the timeline.

    1440x1080 and 1920x1080 produce exactly the same size video -- 16:9. The pixels in a 1440x1080 are simply a bit wider than they are tall. So there's no need to crop it.

    A 1440x1080 and a 1920x1080 look exactly the same and can be pretty much used interchangeably. 1440x1080 is just an older HD format.
