Can you elaborate? I'm not sure how to do what you are suggesting. Where do I type the "\" character. and what screen am I looking at? Thanks.
By @greg__2872
The backslash key shrinks or expands the project to fit the timeline workspace. Normal is for the project to fill the space after pressing the key. If it appears that your project is to the left, it is because there is some portion of it, maybe small, on the right. A big empty space can stop Premiere Elements from exporting.

One possibility that has come up here before is that you have a stray clip on the timeline. A quick way to look is using the "\" key. If the project shows up looking normal, but on the left side of the screen, you may have a clip on the right.

IMO this has nothing to do with dolby.
Works in PPro beta after modfying the audio channels from 6 channels to one.
By @Ann Bens
You are probably right. My guess was based on when 5.1 stopped working working in PrE and that my old Panasonic camcorder clearly states that it has "Dolby 5.1". There also seems to be a lack of interest in fixing this. I put the three events together and assumed a wrong conclusion.

I have a Panasonic camcorder that records "Dolby 5.1" in the .mts format. My solution is to change the camera settings to stereo. If you can, consider changing the 1080i to 1080p. I don't work for Adobe, but based on public information, there was a licensing issue between Dolby and Adobe. It may not be possible for the 5.1 issue to be resolved.

One of the primary coaches here on this forum is Steve Grisitti. He has an excellant 8 part series on YouTube. It will effeciently guide you through using Premiere Elements. It won't take you long and you'll enjoy the Advanced mode!

Hi @Bill Sprague I havent been able to isolate a few seconds in the MIDDLE of a video to mute. It looks as though you can 'fade' volume, but the fading starts at the BEGINNING of the entire segment of video (if this makes sense). The work around is to create a segment of video just a few seconds long and then fade it, but that means me isolcating lots of sections of footage. Is there another way round this? thanks
By @chris_6698
The way you do that is with "keyframes". There is a button under the speaker symbol on the left of the timeline in the Advanced mode. It puts a round keyframe on the volume line. You need four of them to create an isolated section. It is a lot easier to see how it works than describe it. Try this YouTube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fg9RVPx31BI

Try searching for "PremiereElementsEditor.exe". On my computer the full path is "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Elements 2024\PremiereElementsEditor.exe".

I made another mistake Chris. I put up a screenshot from the 2025 version. The 2024 version has the Quick mode volume control in a different spot. This is from 2024.

To see the waveform you expand the audio track by double clicking on the identifier like "Audio 1", "Audio 2", etc. You can further expand it by hovering the mouse on the bottom boundry line under the track indentifier, grabbiing it and dragging down.
For your second question, are you saving your project before you exit and close Premiere Elements? Are you comforable with Windows Explorer? If so, you can find the .exe file for Premiere Elements, make a shortcut for it on your 'Desktop' and open it directly without ever seeing the "preliminary screen".

I may not understand, but I think what you want is to change the default transition to what you like. You do that by opening the transition section, picking one, right clicking and assining it as the default.
Does that do what you want?

Chris,
I made a mistake. I meant to post a screen shot of where the volume tool is in the Quick view. It works the same in both Quick and Advanced. I was trying to not force you to use the Advanced mode.

Does this help? The three bars on the left edge open up the menu with "Volume" on it.

Thanks Neil. I'm going to have some fun learning how this works. So far, I get better footage with my DJI Mini 3 Pro and DJI Pocket 3 using the "normal" modes than trying to correct the log 'like' or log footage. I know I should get better range and color but it has been illusive.
If you have the time, a friend and neighbor did a documentary on a Pacific Northwest theme. I did the aerial footage for him. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Bn8iZ6IILA

I'm not used to the Quick mode so I thought I would try it! Moving from Advanced back to Quick does always work well.
In the Quick mode, make cuts to isolate your 3 second section. Select the 3 second section and pick the Adjustments menu in the upper right corner under "Fix". One of the selections is "Volume". Lower it to what you want.

Steve often has a better way, but if it were me, I would switch to the Advanced mode for this part. Then I would cut the clip on the timeline to isolate the 3 second section. Then I would grab the volume line in that 3 second section and lower it as far as you need. Depending on your needs, there may be ways were you can copy some "background noise" from another part of the clip and fill in that three second section.

Hi Bill!
I would definitely recommend starting by reviewing the documentation. It was written by Alexis Van Hurkman, who is the product manager for color at Adobe, a professional colorist and author of color management books. I'd suggest starting here:

There are new tools in 25.2 for 'log' footage which is a new concept for me. I have cameas that can shoot S-Log or D-Log and a drone that can shoot D-CineLike footage. I'm trying to find tutorials and explainations on how the new log tools work. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

To scale multiple clips to fit the frame size in Premiere Pro, select the clips, right-click, and choose "Set to Frame Size" to maintain original resolution, or "Scale to Frame Size" to resample and rasterize to the frame size.

Thanks. This function works fine on my Windows 11 system so I can't guess what might be going wrong. Can you try to describe, step by step, what you are doing and maybe we can find the cause.

I'm not sure the computer translation worked well. If I understand correctly, the answer is that Premiere Elements does not have the option to copy from one project and paste to another.

I don't know anything about Filmora. For me an upgrade to Premiere Elements 2025 would be worth it for the new color management tools. Take advantage of the free trial and see what you think.

Adding to Bob's and John's posts is another suggestion. "Not compatible" means Premiere Elements can't find what it needs to edit your phone footage.
The coding and decoding systems (or "CODECS") at the consumer and phone level are labeled "H.264" and the newer "H.265". Apple likes to use H.265 and calls it "HEVC". Most Apple computers have it built in and most Windows systems do not. The H.265 codec is not included with Premiere Elements because it is assumed it should be part of the host system. John's suggestion to use Mediainfo will show which codec was used by your phone.
If you use a newer iPhone it comes with HEVC set as a default. It can be changed to the more common H.264 in the settings system. The choice will be labeled something like "Most compatible".
Existing footage can be fixed in at least two ways if changing the file name does not work. One is to install the "H.265" codec. It is purchased from the Microsoft Windows store for a dollar. It is not always easy to install but works once you do. The other is to convert your existing footage to H.264 using software like the free Handbrake program.

Based on your two posts, the one thing you will find missing is "auto-sync" for multi camera shoots. Although Premiere Elements is good at managing multiple tracks it will not line them up like can be done with Premiere Pro. There are plenty of effects, transitions and titles for creative work. There are so some new things I like including enhanced text controls for dynamic titles, improved color correction tools including a White Balance tool and color correction curves, and the ability to adjust footage color with LUTs and access to some free Adobe Stock title templates.

A google search suggests that there have been instances with other Adobe apps where folder access permissions are in conflict. It may be that the Windows update has restricted access to some folders. Solutions have included running as an administrator or resetting preferences at start up.
