I have a Lenovo laptop running WIN11, WIN10 at that time. I was having a problem with Adobe Premier Elements not wanting to import more than a few HEVC files before running into a problem. Then it worked, then it didn't, etc. I learned that the Intel Driver Support utiltiy was installing the latest driver update and the Lenovo driver update utility was overlaying that with an old driver. When the old one would overlay the new one, Adobe wouldn't import the files. I contacted Lenovo and I went back and forth with their support person (not persons) who argued that their driver was the correct one. He eventually quit responding and began closing my tickets as soon as I opened them. I contacted Lenovo via their Facebook page and they eventually quit responding as well. So I uninstalled the Lenovo update utility and I haven't had any problems since then.
If you have an Intel graphics machine, go to their site and install the Driver and Support Assistant utility. Let that be your graphics card driver utility. If you have a different brand, go to that website and see if they have a utility.
Other than that, if you have an older machine with an older graphics card you may have to update. Initially, when I had the import problem I just converted all the HEVC files to .mp4. That worked as well.
Do you have the VLC player? That installs a driver for HEVC files. From their site:
VLC does support HEVC codec and there should be HEVC related modules installed by default. Check by: Open VLC player > Tools > Plugins and extensions > Plugins > Search: HEVC. If there is no result, simply install the latest version of VLC, and recheck the HEVC plugin in VLC to see if it works.Feb 17, 2023
