Question

Play/pause dysfunctional

Whenever play/spacebar is pressed, the program automatically pauses itself again, which makes reviewing clips on the timeline extremely difficult and frustrating. It is acting as though there are constant interruptions, however the problem persists even if Premiere runs independently. Disconnecting from the network, restarting Premiere, and restarting the computer has been ineffective. Running on Windows 10.

Thanks for the suggestions, all. Unfortunately I still cannot seem to fix the issue. I dont have any competing antivirus programs Peru Bob, and moving the playhead williebegoode, unplugging it from the power, or disconnecting from the wifi X72513 has been ineffective. Sometimes it'll function spontaneously, but will inevitably go back to its ways after a couple hours or if left idle.

I understand that Premeire is programmed to pause when there is an interruption, so I am wondering if there is any way to just disable that function altogether so I can get on with my project? Thank you

JayDraco,

Try this: when you play/pause, wait about 5 beats, then move the playhead left and right. That worked for me. I found that if I edit in a transition and click play, the play seems to lock up; so I just do a slide-slide with the playhead and then everything works. I believe that PRE is still working to get everything in order after the transition insertion.

There's certainly nothing obvious in your specs. But is your video driver really nearly a year old and no updates are available from the nVidia site?

Very strange that you're having exactly the same problem with two versions of the program.

Meantime, am I just not seeing it? How much free space is on your C drive?

And I'm not sure the value of using an external drive for your scratch disk. If you've got an SSD for your hard drive, its response should be pretty immediate. You're not likely to get a boost from using an external drive for your scratch disk. It might be the bottleneck, in fact.

Unless you're trying to compensate for a lack of free space on your C drive -- which could also be the bottleneck.

Assuming you've got 60-100 gig of free space on your C drive, try just setting your scratch disk to it.

Hey Steve,

Well, I've done a bit of experimentation with both computers and Premiere Elements 2018 and I've come up with this interesting turn of events.

After unplugging everything but the power, I worked the program and it worked.  I put the wireless mouse, keyboard, external drive,
and it kept working, until I connected the computer to the internet.  Just plugging the cable in and PE2018 pauses, and will not continue to play.  Today,  I tried to work on it connecting by wireless  to the internet and it is working.  My friend I am at a loss.

Do you have any thoughts?

There is likely a program (maybe the antivirus or firewall or Windows) that is trying to update.

Thank you, I will.

So appreciate that someone (you) has some idea of what my situation is.

This problem just started and it is on both of my computer's.

I will get back with you when I get back to my desk.

Thanks again,

Keitg

I can't help you either, X72513 unless you provide me more information also.

Hello,

Thank you for responding to my question.

What other info can I give you.

I have used different levels of Premiere since the early 90's and have

never had this problem. So tell me please,

What I can give you.

Thank you so much.

Keith

This means that some background program is interrupting. It could be something like an antivirus program -- or it could be malware of some kind.

Open your Task Manager. Which Apps does it show as running?

Leave it open as you play your movie. Does one of these Apps indicate that it is taking CPU when your movie suddenly stops?

You mention a network.  Are your source clips on a network somewhere?

I have this same problem, I just upgraded to Premiere Elements 2018 because PE14 just wouldn't work after I had to buy a new computer.

My source clips are on my internal {D:}Data drive.

I am working on audio only clips right now, and it played for about 3 minutes, until I paused it and expanded the size of my Timeline.

Then it almost immediately stopped. When I clicked on the spacebar or the Play button it would only play for a sec then stop again.

We updated the drives last night.

Sure appreciate your help.
