What are the complete computer specs, including hard drives (how many, what kind, what is on each, what capacity, and how full)? Please use the free MediaInfo and post a screenshot of the properties of your media in tree view: https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo If NVIDIA graphics, make sure to use the latest Studio Driver from NVIDIA (NOT the Game Driver). Check the Audio Hardware Preferences. Default Audio Input should be set to No Input.

@Johnny's Garage Photoshop Elements is different from Photoshop. They are different programs. While there are some similarities, Photoshop tutorials don't usually apply to Photoshop Elements.

Try updating or rolling back your graphics driver directly from the video card manufacturer’s site. If NVIDIA, do a clean installation of the latest Studio Driver (NOT the Game Driver). If that doesn't work, try creating a new project and import the old one into it.

Since premiere Pro still works with Windows 10, I would expect that it would still work with your version of Windows 11 for a while. It is best practice to not update Premiere Pro in the middle of a project.

If Photoshop or Photoshop Elements, select the layers you want to merge and then Ctrl + Shift + Alt + E. That will create a new layer with the layers merged.

The external drive appears to be an HDD, not an SSD. A fast SSD is necessary for good performance.
