Question

14.0.1 now essential graphics clips in timeline jump when dragging CTI across timeline

So I haven't seen this issue in the boards, but it's really driving me crazy. Whenever I drag the CTI across the timeline, when it comes across a clip created in Essential Graphics, the frame flickers wide and then back to normal size (see video below). It doesn't happen over regular video clips or regular cuts. But on the cuts between regular clip and essential graphics clip it stutters. I can try and ignore it as it doesn't happen during playback but it's super annoying while I'm editing. Thoughts? I've cleared cache/preferences/all render files and created a new project and it made no difference. I'm using latest everything. OS/iMacPro/Premiere 14.0.1.

That does sound like a pita. Are those AE mogurt? If so, have you tried opening those mogurt in AE, nudge something so you can save it again in the current AE version (17.02), even perhaps saving as, and put it thru Essential Graphics again. At least try it on one and see how it does.

Yeah, good suggestion -- I'll try that this week...

So, resaving the mogrt in the latest AE didn't change anything. I have reported it on the Adobe bug/requests page, along with some other Essential Graphics issues that also arose with 14.0.1. Mainly, that all of our text-field based mogrt graphics in our timelines (we use template premiere projects with the EG files pre-populated in the timelines) had words appear in all the empty text fields. Meaning, that if we had a lower 3rd mogrt, and we only used first names for a project, suddenly the "last name" field in the template had the word "Jones" on screen. Even when the text field in the mogrt was empty. It's as if the text that we typed in our existing lower 3rds now has the text that we used in the template along side. Not sure if that makes sense. We put in dummy text in the templates so that editors can see the look of the graphic before they replace it with the right words. Long story short, a QC person responded, saw an example of this and is supposedly looking into it. The flickering effect, I don't think he is looking into.

I see the red-line across the top of your timeline over those portions with graphics, that indicates you need to render those portions: You can set an in/out point and render just the bit you want, or press <Enter> (by default) on the numeric keypad to render Effect in/out, etc. See the options in the Sequence Menu.

I wish it was as simple as that, but it just was a coincidence that the bar was red in that example. Rendering doesn't make a difference to the way the image stretches and flickers in the program window.

I am pretty sure it's a bug as every computer where I work (7 editors) are all having this problem.

Also, I'm realizing that all our .mogrts that we use for our templates are having odd behaviors and words appearing that we are not typing. We are having to go in to the essential graphics tab, type a couple letters into each "blank" text field (where the ghosted words appear) and then hit delete. Then the template can be used again. A serious PITA.

Now I have to decide which is more bothersome, the faulty Essential Graphics function or the Extend Edit/Trim Menu issue in 14.0.0. So much fun to pay to be an Adobe Beta tester.
