23.5 needs to Render after every edit change

Every time I make an edit change, I have to render to see the edit changes.

For example, I have an essential text graphic over a video with color applied to the source. If I change the text in the essential graphic, the video reverts to log, and I have to render to see the video with color. This is happening with other edit changes as well.

Could this be a 23.5 issue or something I need to change in my settings?

Premiere 23.5, Mac Ventura 13.4, Mac Studio M1 Max

Delete the Media Cache and Media Cache files:

If that doesn't work, try resetting the preferences:

If that doesn't work, try resetting the Workspaces:
Reset a workspace
Reset the current workspace to return to its original, saved layout of panels.
1. Do one of the following:
• Click the Workspace menu icon and select Reset to Saved Layout.
• Choose Window > Workspace > Reset to Saved Layout.

If that doesn't work, try Preferences > Audio Hardware and set Input to None.

If that doesn't work, try creating a new project and import the old one into it.
