4k footage resized to 2k question

Dear all,

I currently have some 4k footage on a c300 mark ii that I will be editing (using proxies ofc), and I have a few questions which I would love if anyone could answer to:

-If (and tell me if I'm wrong) this film is going for a theatrical release, then shouldn't a 2K export be just fine? Or will 4K give me such a considerable difference?

-I would rather sacrifice a small difference in quality to give me a larger margin of error to resize and stabilize some shots. This is where I have a big question: how do you resize and stabilize 4k shots in 2k shots? Stabilize with warp, cropping (and if yes how much max?)...? I'm literally not sure so any experience is welcome here.

-Finally, if I do end up working on a 4k workflow with a 2k end goal and resizing some shots throughout the process, what does my workflow look like? How do I set it up so that I don't mess it up, especially with the resizing?

Thank you so much for your time and answers!

Tristan

Was the DP so incompetent that the shots need to be reframed in post?

No, not at all. There are just a few shots that are slightly shaky and which I would like to stabilize. It's surprising to me that if you shoot in 4k on a 2k sequence you have to nest your 4k footage to stabilize it, essentially losing all your 4k quality right?

Has adobe not found a way yet to stabilize 4k footage on a 2k sequence without stabilizing it?

Also, is it possible to send my clip to AE, stabilize it there, and then send it back to premiere?

Thanks!

YOu can use AE but also put the clip in a 4K sequence, stabilize and bring it into the 2K sequence.

theatrical release

You need to ask the people who will release the film for particulars.

4k shots in 2k shots

You cannot stabilize a 4K shot in a 2K setting, need to nest first.

Maximum scaling is 50%

Your workflow depends on the answer to the first question.
