Question

5.1 Audio export H2.64 (Premier Pro 2020)

I am looking for some guidance…

I have a professionally mixed down 5.1 audio stems (L, C, R, LFE, Ls, Rs) for a project which was theatrically screened. I am looking to export a new project which can be downloaded and viewed on tv screens etc (using H.264 Video and the 5.1 mixed stems audio).

I’m not sure fo how to

  1. Import the 5.1 Audio into a new Premiere Pro Project (2020)
  2. Export setting (using h.264) to ensure the 5.1 output remains

There are many differing opinions online, I not sure of what will work…thanks in advance

Hi Wayned11119707,

1. Importing 5.1 audio into Premiere Pro is the same as importing any other asset. Is the 5.1 one file? Or is it six different files?

2. When you create the sequence in Premiere Pro, you have to be sure to navigate to the Tracks tab and change the master from stereo to 5.1 - very important step. While you're at it, you might as well change the Audio 1 from stereo to 5.1, as well. I'm typing this under the assumption that the 5.1 audio is one file.

Then when you go to export as H.264, in the audio tab you'll have the option for 5.1.

Thanks for your help...5.1 is coming up now...

Another quick one..I am using 6 separate files, should they be standard or mono?

And should I pan them accordingly, Does LFE need to be panned or leave that?

You absolutely must pan accordingly if using split files.

The LFE is a bugger too, as you cannot pan to it but instead need to mute all the 5 main channels & dial up the LFE level to 0dBFS from the knob in the panner.

It's not the best system in the world.....
