A Strangely Vertical Clip

What could cause digital footage that was shot horizontially to appear in Adobe Premier Pro as a vertical image file? And what can I do to correct this clip's orientation?   I've tried rotating it under Effect Controls.

Thanks

Correct answer Ann Bens

You phone? was still in vertical mode when shooting in landscape.

Try Shutter Encoder encoding|converting video FREE PC|Mac to rotate the images before bringing them into Premiere.

Some phones can rotate within and I believe a Mac can do that also.

I've press the record button on my phone and I suppose it was before I realized it had started in Portrait mode and even though I was watching the scene after that, it was recorded as a vertical (ugh) video. Ann's got the right idea, and you can also rotate the vertical clip in the timeline.

Thanks for this reply but I didn't use my phone for these videos.  I used a professional Canon 60D camera on a tripod and all of the other clips are properly horizontally oriented,  This strange one is not and is not easy to simply rotate in the timeline for some reason.

It seems your camera has Auto rotation.

If it just one clip during a shoot I am guessing it somehow got corrupt.

You will have to use Shutter encoder to change the orientation or just rotate in the effects controls and scale up.

Sorry, I should have mentioned this:.  I used a Canon EOS 60 D to shoot all of the clips with the following specs:

Video File Format & Codec:

  • Container: .MOV (QuickTime format)
  • Codec: H.264 (MPEG-4 AVC)
  • Compression: Variable Bitrate (VBR)

Resolution & Frame Rates:

  • 1920 × 1080 (Full HD) @

And I shot a number of clips of this same person and only this one appeared as strangely verticle,  Any idea of why?

Thanks
