A2 and V2 Tracks Suddenly Disappeared - having to do with source tracking?

So there I was working on the conclusion of my documentary. Then I looked back in the timeline to see almost all of my A2 (soundtrack) and V2 (captions) tracks were simply not there. I also noticed for the first time the phenomenon of having a "V1" to the left of the padlock icon on the V2 track and the same thing (an "A1" on the A2 track) for the audio.
I restored an autosaved version of the project. Things looked normal. But when I imported some files, the same strange "V1" and "A1" things were happening again. I then realized this happens when I simply double click any particular clip in the timeline.
I've learned this lefthand column on the timeline controls is for something called source patching. Is is just a coincidence that I noticed this the same time I lost A2 and V2 tracks? If not, how do I disable this function? I'm worried to continue working with this potential monkey wrench thrown into my project. And I have a screening next Sunday:/
Thanks for any help!

That actually comes out when you load a clip into the source monitor, whether double-clicking a timeline clip or one from the project, etc. If it's a video clips with audio, it lets PP know what track you want the source audio and video to go when using the ',' insert and '.' overwrite commands. It's possible you had A2 and V2 selected when adding clips and it overwrote those tracks as you went along. Once you have an audio/video clips in the source monitor you can turn off the source patching, and it would require you to turn it them back on before you can do a ',.' edit.

I'm wondering if your tracks are out of view, perhaps you dragged the separator bar and the track is simply too squished to show?
