Question

Add Effect to One Spot in a Frame

Hello,

I'm creating several very short (7-10 seconds) clips from still images I shot at a lacrosse tournament. Is there a way to add a localized effect to just one part of a frame? For example, in the last picture in one clip, there is a lacrosse ball in the top-left of the goal, and I would like to add a pulse, flash, or ripple to just the area around the ball. Is that possible?

I apologize if this has been asked and answered before. I tried searching the forum before posting my question, but I wasn't even sure what terms to use.

Hi @mattspence,

Thanks for the note. Besides the ideas Neil has for you, you can also place Add Edits with a clip and place the effect between those edits. You can create an Add Edit with Sequence > Add Edit, clicing the location for the edit the Razor tool or with a keyboard shortcut. I hope the info helps.

Thanks,
Kevin

You can keyframe activities on a sequence.  And you can apply say a mask to a Lumetri effect. So apply the Lumetri effect, then go to the Effects Control Panel (ECP). There are stopwatch icons by many Lumetri controls in the ECP.

Another probably easier way is to use the Essential Graphics Panel ... EGP. Add a new shape, change to say 8 points ... then give the shape a 'stroke' ... you've now highlighted that area. And this can be keyframed in the same way in the ECP.

Click the stopwatch so it turns blue, it's now setting a keyframe setting there for that effect.

Move forward or backward in the timeline, change the control for that partidular tool. Such as Exposure or Whites or something else. Pr now sets a new keyframe at that spot.

Now playback ... and you'll have change to the image between the two keyframes.

Everyone's mileage always varies ...
