Question

Adding cross dissolve makes video clips stutter or freeze.

I have been having an ongoing issue with the cross dissolve making clips stutter or freeze.  Doesn't happen every time I add a cross dissolve in the timeline, but it will happen with certain clips.  Not sure why because all the clips are the same frame rate etc.  I've tried serveral things that I read on this disscussion board but the issue still remains.  Im using Windows 11, plenty of ram, EVGA 2070 Super with updated drivers.

Thanks for any tips.

Hello, Could you please provide some details about both your system configuration and the media files you're using in your project? Understanding your hardware specifications, including your processor, amount of RAM, GPU model, and any other relevant components, can help identify potential performance bottlenecks or compatibility issues. Additionally, knowing the type of codec and compression used in your media files can also be crucial. Intraframe codecs like ProRes, Cineform, and DNxHD/R typically play back much better than H.264/long-GOP interframe codecs commonly found in MP4 and phone clips. This information will assist in troubleshooting the stuttering or freezing issues you're experiencing with certain clips in Adobe Premiere Pro!

Thanks

My System:

I9 10900K @3.70 ghz

64GB Ram

Nvidia 2070 Super

The files video files are MP4 H.264 4K 29.97fps (the issue happens with 60fps 4K files as well.)  The clips are from a DJI Air2S.

It doesnt seem to happen with every cross dissolve I drop in the timeline, but it will happen on a few and gets pretty fustrating when previewing an edit.  The stutter will happen at the cross dissolve point and continure into the following clip.

Id like to add that this was happening signifigantly with Primere Pro 2024 CC, which has having several other issues as well.  I recut in the 2023 version and it was much better.  Not as many stutters for freezes.

Delete the Media Cache and Media Cache files:

Then try pressing Enter to render the timeline and turn the red line above the timeline to green.

Try unchecking Composite in linear color in the sequence settings.
