i already have videos on my time line and i want to add another media asset to my time line. So i then import more media assets and as i go to drag it to my timeline it only allows me to add the audio from the new media asset onto the time line and does not allow me to add the footage to the time line

There are source 'targets' ... the blue block to the very far left of your timeline panel control block.

In your case, there's a blue block for audio ... probably A1 ... but no blue block for video above it. So Premiere thinks you've told it NOT to add video, only audio, to the sequence.

Click on the audio block for the track you want, probably V1. Turn it blue. Then it works.
